Jones Road Tree Service is proud to announce that owner, and ISA Certified Arborist, David Mauk has recently become a “Certified Treecare Safety Professional” (CTSP) through the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA). This certification has been a long journey with lots of hard work for David. The journey does not end with the title, but merely marks the beginning of promoting a responsible and safe worksite for all of our tree work. We are extremely proud of this fact, especially considering that there are only five tree services in the Houston area that have a CTSP on staff, and Jones Road Tree Service is one of two locally owned companies that have this distinction.
This probably leaves you wondering a few things. First, how difficult is it to become a CTSP? Second, what does this mean and what are the benefits to choosing a company with a CTSP on staff?
The requirements to become a CTSP are quite exhaustive. The Tree Care Industry Association requires that all CTSPs must go through an extensive training program, and must pass a safety-related exam. In addition, all CTSPs are required to complete 30 continuing education credits, which includes ongoing safety training, teaching safety classes, writing articles for publication in industry magazines, and more!
The TCIA developed the CTSP program to decrease work-related injuries and fatalities in the tree care industry. The tree care industry is one of the most dangerous industries in the United States, right up there with Snow Crab fishing and logging operations. The TCIA has found that an accredited member will experience 100% fewer accidents than a non-accredited non-member (Accident Survey Results: 2008-09 Operations).
